Commit yourself to the process. Be patient. Ask a lot of questions when hiring an SEO company. Become a student of SEO. Have web analytics in place at the start. Build a great web site. A big mistake I find commonly when SEOing customer sites is that they will have all their pages with the same title, description and keyword.

Ensure every page has a unique (Keyword rich) title, if you must put your site name in your title do it at the end

The description should have keywords that are relevant and be well written, dont just cram a bunch of keywords in, use proper punctuation and sentence structure.

Make sure to use Keywords that complement your page copy, also if your using PPC using your bidding terms in the keywords can help improve your "quality score"
