Link farms are pages that consist solely of links to other pages but fail to offer any kind of useful content themselves. Site owners typically place their links on farms to artificially boost linking popularity and thus rankings on sites like Google. Some link farms are automatically generated, while site owners manage others as a repository of reciprocal links.

A link farm is a Web page that is nothing more than a page of links to other sites and generally the referring pages have a Google PageRank of zero thereby damaging the sites own PageRank.

Instead of getting backlinks from your own websites and creating a link farm, it is better to get backlinks from other websites as search engine spiders are very intelligent to find out the backlinks and if they find backlinks coming from some specific websites only, it might be possible that your website rankings will go down in search engines :o

IMO, link farming is a bad SEO practice which is connecting to different sites even if its not related to your niche.

A link farm is a process by which all the members are connected to each other via a common set of link pages. A link farm is any group of web sites that all hyperlink to every other site in the group.

A link farm is a website set up with the sole purpose of increasing the link popularity of other sites by increasing the number of incomming links to those sites. They are typically made up of long lists of unrelated links. Some link farms are created as networks of sites that contain numerous links to one another.
Nearly all search engines remove link farms from their directories when they find them. And many also penalize other sites that link to them. It is not a good idea to link to a link farm if you rely at all on organic search for pageviews.

Link farm is any group of web sites that all hyperlink to every other site in the group. Although some link farms can be created by hand, most are created through automated programs and services. A link farm is a form of spamming the index of a search engine (sometimes called spamdexing or spamexing). Other link exchange systems are designed to allow individual websites to selectively exchange links with other relevant websites and are not considered a form of spamdexing.
