I have seen a lot of people selling “guaranteed listings” in the Yahoo Directory for prices ranging from $50 on up. Now I'm even getting unsolicited offers for this "service." This is utterly amazing and has the stench of the quick approvals “guaranteed” at DMOZ. So I am going to tackle this issue, to a limited degree.
Here’s the scoop. Submitting to Yahoo’s main directory (http://dir.yahoo.com/) leaves you no choice but to choose the paid or non profit option. So how are these people selling guaranteed submissions so cheap? Well, I’m sure a few of the people may know someone on the inside. Others have just realized a loophole so to speak.
The Yahoo Directory has many regional directories. Yahoo UK (http://uk.dir.yahoo.com/) is just one example of the many regional directories available. If you go to these regional directories and try to submit a site, you will notice they have the 7 day guaranteed consideration option ($299 a year) or a standard free submission. At Yahoo's UK Directory, only the free submit option exists. You will also notice they do not make mention of non profit businesses on the page. Therefore, any commercial site can be submitted free of charge using their free standard consideration option.

It is quite common to see directory listings in Yahoo’s main directory included in their regional directories as well. The same applies if a site is first submitted to a regional directory. Of course the editor has this authority to push your listing to other regional directories, and that outcome is dependent on them.
Those that know me understand I do not like talking about stuff like this in public. The potential for abusing this method is high. But there has been a proliferation of people selling these guaranteed listings in the Yahoo Directory. And it will only get worse until this "loophole" is finally closed by Yahoo. So get listed while you can! :)
