I have seen a lot of people coming out with new directories with PR on all forums. Many bidding directories manage to sell many links in a short timeframe because of the high PR that people can see on google toolbar and other pagerank checkers.

Many of the new directories with PR have dropped domains and some of them are able to retain the PR by heavily promoting their websites but some of them have a forged / fake PR and people buying links on directories (sponsor link on web directories and any link on bidding directories) should check whether the PR is fake.

I use the fake PR checker at http://www.checkpagerank.net/ and it has saved me from many scammers.

Another manual way of checking for fake PR is searching for info:domaininquestion.com in google and if it shows some other website then it's a fake / redirected PR. You should also see number of backlinks in google / yahoo to ascertain the PR is correct.

As Kailash pointed. The same should be done when you are buying a domain or a website.

yes jitendraag, you are absolutely right. Also some people are taking the benefit of fake page rank to sell a domain at high price. We should check the fake PR before purchasing such domain. It is quite possible that Google may ban such sites.

I have read in many forums that people were crying :( after purchasing such high PR domains (fake PR site). Also if such sites are banned by search engines then it is very hard to get listed again and you will need to lots of work. I hope this will help to the people who are planning to purchase such site from auction.

It is not only fake PR we need to worry about. Many new directories will show PR even at the fake PR checkers, but they are actually expired domains that people snatched up and tossed a directory onto while it still has PR. Google has been getting better at catching this quicker, but you really need to check things before wasting your hard earned money on these crap sites.

Sometimes there is a problem with http://www.checkpagerank.net/

It'll give you a different results if you type the full domain name(http://www.thedomainname .com) and then without http://www. Make sure to check both otpions.

I don't think you can create one. It's just some people buy expired domains with PR, but I believe it goes back to PR0 in the next update.

True, I guess that was the very first thing you should do before you buy the link you've wanted so that there will be no regrets or whatsoever.
