My company's website has disappeared from Google. We were doing well with searches related to our company.

On June 23, all activity from Google basically stopped. I started to checkout our website updates and discovered that our entire website file had been uploaded. This file had "old" web pages that were similar to the "new" web pages. I immediately removed these old pages. Since then, I've been trying to load a sitemap to my site, but it returns an error. It appears that we are not indexed by Google. We rely on Google traffic, as we all know approximately 60% of all searches go through Google. As you can imagine, ouch!

After making the changes, we submitted for reinclusion to Google.

I'm not sure if we were penalized for duplicating web pages, but I'm on the brink of starting a new website with another domain name. We just can't wait to see if our website comes back. Any suggestions would be great.

The best thing to do was to correct the problem, which you did. As long as the old urls return a 404 error, they will be deindexed and your rankings should return.

Normally Google does not penalize for duplicate content, it simply deindexes it. That may be what happened in your situation. Now that you fixed the problem, continue adding content and getting quality links back to your site. Your rankings will return.

Good luck
