Your website will get good rankings and more traffic only if the blogs you are commenting on have good rankings and good amount of traffic. Hence, it is necessary to choose blogs which have a good amount of traffic and good rankings which will give you more traffic. Commenting on blogs related to your niche is ofcourse necessary.

There are some more things you need to take care of. If the blog is dofollow and it is already having lots of comments on it, then just leave it because it is a waste of time. Check how recently the blog was visited by bots, make genuine comments, try to put some efforts where the writer should really feel that comment made by you counts worth and the comment will not be marked as spam.
