JoeAnt directory had its Page Rank slashed recently.

Aaron Wall talks about it here Official: General Web Directories Are Dead - JoeAnt is PageRank 3, More Aggressive Hand Editing by Google : SEO Book.com (http://www.seobook.com/official-general-web-directories-are-dead-joeant-pagerank-3-more-aggressive-hand-editing-google)

I've been cutting back from submitting to directories for the past year. Saw this coming from miles away.

Even funnier though is Google re-instated a PR5 for JoeAnt after Aaron called Google on it.

Google has gone crazy giving penalties to directories. I have viewed so many cases of link spam and paid links in other niches (SEO especially) that are ignored by Google.

Directory owners can help protect themselves by not selling sitewide links. Also remove the reciprocal link listing option.

Bidding directories may be next, because Google does not want people bidding for a position on the high PR homepage. Google wants all link money spent at Google!

Not true. Google give penalties only for scam in directories.
